Chairperson’s Letter

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to the Dean Park PTA website – I hope you find it a useful source of information.  The PTA has a long standing tradition of working closely with parents, teachers and the community to provide resources and activities for our children.  The PTA plays an important role within the school and local community with activities centered on five key areas: fundraising, running after school clubs, provision of school uniform, participation in community events and communication.

The PTA has a long-standing tradition of raising funds to enhance the facilities and resources available to pupils in the school and pre-school centre.  Projects range from large undertakings such as the transition to a single site school, Eco garden and traverse climbing wall to smaller purchases such as Alpha Smart keyboards, art & craft materials and sporting equipment.  This year we are embarking on “The Big Project” which involves a phased development of the playing field to allow the installation of play equipment behind the football fields. The PTA organises a large number of after school clubs in order to provide a diverse range of activities for pupils to enjoy – there really is something for everyone! We participate in a number of community events such as the Balerno Children’s Gala and Balerno Parish Church Christmas Tree Festival and we work with a variety of local organisations on many different activities throughout the year.

The variety of activities reflects the diversity of our members: some work, some don’t, some coordinate after school clubs, others help at major fundraising events – the key point is that all are enthusiastic and passionate about doing their bit to make our children’s years at Dean Park the best they can be.

Over recent years the PTA has been increasingly successful in all areas of our work – over the last year we have run a record number of after school clubs and fundraising has also hit a record high.  This is down to the phenomenal support we have received from everyone, and is also due to the commitment of our members.  If you would like to help out we are always on the lookout for new members (or helpers at key events) and new fundraising ideas – feel free to drop in the PTA session or get in touch with any of us to find out more.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best Wishes,

Brent Hurley
