Football
- About the Club
The Primary School Football Club is committed to providing opportunities for pupils to participate in football in an environment that fosters fair play, equality, participation and player development. Our aim is to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment to players from Primary 4 to Primary 7, regardless of ability or previous experience. The club actively seeks to promote the ethos of co-operation, respect for others, loyalty, and self-discipline, whilst developing player’s skill, personal fitness and self esteem.
Our teams participate in the Edinburgh Primary Schools Soccer 7’s programme, whose objectives are to promote the small-sided game for boys and girls, in line with City of Edinburgh Council Education Department physical education policies and is actively supported by the Scottish Football Association, and sponsored by Scottish Widows. The modified 7-a-side game is designed to meet the needs of children between five and twelve years. These games are the preferred method of training by professional players and are the most appropriate way of acquiring skills and developing young players.
Weekly coaching sessions for season 2011-12 will commence at the beginning of term. Teams train at Dean Park on Monday or Wednesday evenings until the end of September, and then at Balerno High School until Easter (see timetable below).
Matches against other local Primary schools take place on Saturday mornings and will commence at the end of August 2011. Matches are not intended to be ultra-competitive, but aim to provide a positive developmental environment for children to play football.
Please note that at this age group, football is mixed and the P4-7 teams are therefore open to both boys and girls.
Parent Volunteers
The on-going success of the football club is dependent on the goodwill and support of parents. All our coaches are parent volunteers, who devote a large amount of time and energy to the organisation and operation of each team. We are always looking for additional coaches or helpers, regardless of experience or ability. If you would like to get involved in any capacity with the Football Club, please contact the Football Club Coordinator.
As with other school clubs, it is important that parents/guardians of participating pupils attend on the training night rota, which will be advised by the team coach in due course. The health and safety of pupils attending training sessions is our first priority. Training will have to be cancelled, and players turned away on the night, if the legal number of parents to pupils cannot be met. Parents must therefore wait with their child until they are sure the training session is going ahead. In addition, there will be a strip washing rota and help may be required to transport pupils to away matches (NB these are all in West Edinburgh).
Primary 3
Whilst no official fixtures are organised for children below Primary 4 age, a number of schools across Edinburgh have started to organise training and arrange unofficial fixtures for children in Primary 3. If any parents are interested in starting a Primary 3 team, please contact the Football Club Coordinator.
